Gummy Bear Breast Augmentation

Form stable cohesive gel implants (cited as the "new" silicone implants) are such a hot topic in the breast augmentation world today because of their promising ability to provide optimal shape, deter leakage and minimize complications.

One of the most compelling benefits of the new cohesive implants is their unique ability to shape the breast. "These new form stable cohesive gel implants provide patients with a very natural look and feel, as well as added potential safety benefits," says Adams. These implants feel a lot like natural breast tissue and provide a way for women to enhance their breast size or shape, or to replace a breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease.

In fact, gel implants are known as "gummy bear implants" because they are made with a more viscous gel than previous silicone models. "Several major advances in breast augmentation have benefited patients in the past 5 years, and these devices represent the most significant device related advance in breast implants for over 20 years. These cohesive gel implants have had great success in Europe and South America over the past 10-12 years; however, in the US are only available through FDA clinical trials. The early results of these trials have been quite favorable. The new implants hopefully will become more widely available in the US in 2006 likely after the approval of the older generation silicone gel implants," Adams explained.

This Dallas cosmetic surgeon is regarded as a national expert in breast augmentation and breast/body contouring procedures and is renowned for his expertise in breast implant surgery.

Dr. Adams has a private Dallas, TX cosmetic surgery practice and is also an associate clinical professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is invited all over the world to speak to surgeons, industry and patients about breast augmentation and breast surgery technologies and issues.

Liposuction Methods

After my post earlier in the week I thought it would be a great time to explain more about the different Liposuction methods that are available in the marketplace today. With several techniques available and several manufacturers making liposuction equipment I felt it would be good to explain them and demystify liposuction. Due to time I cannot cover all areas and types of liposuction.

Liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure today. It involves getting rid of fat from targeted areas of the body. Liposuction methods has advanced making this cosmetic surgery involve less risk and achieve better results.

Superwet Liposuction / Tumescent Lipoplasty: In this procedure, anesthetic liquid is injected before surgery which numbs the area and slows blood flow. The fluid allows the cannula to enter the skin easier and remove the fat more safely. This technique is good for reducing blood loss and may be used anywhere in the body.

(UAL) Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty : UAL uses a tube, called a probe, that produces ultrasonic energy that liquefies fat. The liquid fat is much easier to remove. UAL is often used in the back, upper abdomen, or male breast region.

LySonix ®: UltraSculpt: UltraSculpt utilizes LySonix ® technology to gently liquefy and remove fat from sensitive and delicate areas.

VASER ®: LipoSelection: LipoSelection by VASER ® is a cosmetic surgery process that causes more accurate sculpting, less bruising, and quick. LipoSelection distributes the ultrasonic energy to disrupt the fat prior to removal.

(PAL) Power-Assisted Liposuction: Power-assisted liposuction provides power to the cannula, which lessens the amount of physical work the board certified cosmetic surgeon does during surgery.

First Lady of Nigeria Dies after Cosmetic Surgery

Experts are trying to determine if Stella Obasanjo, wife of the Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, died because of a complication during a cosmetic surgery procedure.

Nigerian media has said the operation was a tummy tuck or liposuction, possibly a combination of the two procedures. It is likely the procedure included liposuction as it is common during abdominoplasty aka a "tummy tuck".

I have no idea what kind of medical boards exist in spain or the level of patient care in that country. I do feel that if her surgery would have been done in the united states by a board certified plastic surgeon, that her death would not have occurred.

The best method to reducing risk is to work with a borad certified cosmetic surgeon, certified by the American board of plastic surgery.

Liposuction is one of the highest risk procedures for cosmetic surgery patients. More
than 27, 000 Americans have liposuction, a procedure in which fat is sucked out of thighs, bellies and other parts of the body, every year by board certified plastic surgeons. There several liposuction methods available, so please consult your cosmetic surgeon regarding the best option for your body type.

Labiaplaty, Labia reduction and Hymen Repair

As a male, this was a topic for some time that I overlooked. But once it was brought to my attention, I quickly realized how important these procedures can be for certain women.

Females request this Procedure for many reasons including cosmetic improvement, relief of discomfort, hygeine, to feel more comfortable and less self-conscious during sex. Etc.. Labiaplasty can be referred to in other ways such as Vaginal Rejuvenation, Vagina Reduction, Vaginaplasty, Vaginoplasty Labia Reduction, Inner Lip Reduction, and Labia Minora Reduction.

The majority of women undergoing these types of procedures are doing so for a corrective measure, and not so much for cosmetic reasons. Women with large labia, Rape victims, mothers seeking vaginal tightening, and Muslim women seeking "virgin like" vaginias are the most common currently.

This trend is starting to change and many patients are now coming to their board certified plastic surgeon to have their bodies changed to be similar to a certain playboy centerfold or adult film star. I anticipate this trend to continue as more and more American's become aware of these surgeries existence.

Good Cosmetic Surgeon vs. Bad Cosmetic Surgeon

It is a fact all plastic surgeons are not created equal. Some are great, some are marginal and some are just plain horrible. Sifting through credentials and board certifications can often be a difficult task for the plastic surgery patient. I work with cosmetic / plastic surgeons everyday and I can tell you first hand that they are an interesting breed and no two surgeons are the same.

The first step is to be absolutely sure your surgeon has achieved board certification by the American board of plastic surgery, the only plastic surgery board that is recognized by the American board of medical specialties. Generally speaking you should be sure your surgeon is a member of the ASPS, as all members are American board certified.

Good cosmetic surgeons :
  1. They spend time with their patients and don't cattle hurd them through the office.
  2. Take time to understand the patients goals
  3. Understand ethnic and cultural standards with regards to the body (all surgeries are not created equal)
  4. Diligently explain and document surgery risks and recovery times
  5. Continue their education and are up to date on the latest surgeries and procedural methods
  6. They do not sell other surgeries, or perform risky unproven procedures
  7. Require patients to take out complication insurance

Bad Cosmetic Surgeons :

  1. Are in many cases not American board certified
  2. Have a high volume of patients
  3. Advertise procedures for a low cost (believe me you don't want a $4,000 boob job)
  4. Office atmosphere is noticeably tense
  5. Don't spend time with the patient or don't listen to their needs and true desires

Celebrities and Plastic Surgery

Celebrities really amuse me.. Actors and musicians mostly; they seem to think the nation cares about their opinion, I don't and neither should you.

Whether it is politics, the hurricanes, or a plastic surgery procedure, celebrities seem compelled to show their ignorance on the subjects. What makes it even better is that we get to hear about their crap from various garbage media outlets. Plastic surgeons relationships with celebrities has often been a double edged scalpel. A celebrity can be the best advertisement a cosmetic surgeon ever asked for and on the other hand if things go south or the celebrity has complications with surgery, the likelihood of lawsuits or bad press coverage is substantially increased.

Here are some recent celebrities in the news relating to Cosmetic Surgery.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON is determined to have cosmetic surgery. She says, "I definitely believe in plastic surgery, I don't want to be an old hag. There's no fun in that."

JODIE FOSTER "I'm starting to see all the funny changes. As an actor, you look at photos of yourself and go, 'Oh, what is that?' "It's an awkward period, between 40 and 50, and I don't want to go through it. I don't want to compete in a losing battle. I don't want to be Cher."

JOAN RIVERS "I wish I had a twin, so I could know what I'd look like without plastic surgery."

TARA REID: A perfect example of a breast augmentation gone bad. Scars, Scars, Scars. Imagine what this event did to her plastic surgeons PR. The poor surgeon is probably now limited to doing botox out of the back of his car. Obviously a bad boob job.

The beginning of True Cosmetic Surgery

I have decided to start this blog due to the tremendous amount of misinformation available regarding cosmetic and plastic surgery. There are very few places that I can find that give accurate and true information about the topic. I have seen in many cases, the surgeons themselves cannot decide on what is true and untrue about new and emerging procedures. It seems that everyday there is some new fad (feather lift, weekend face lift, contour threading, velasmooth, mesotherapy..Etc.) and everyone seems to disagree about how effective each new technique or technology is. One thing I can say is so far the results coming back about cohesive gel implants is amazing. These new implants are said by many to be the most revolutionary product related advance in cosmetic surgery in the last 20 years. Here is a link to and article that was published which talks more about gummy bear implants.
